The Ensembles’ Evening is another extraordinary event. Although its programme is slightly shorter, the event distinguishes for its authentic three-layered composition. The Ensembles’ Evening performance consists of three elements: 1) a choir, performing Lithuanian folk songs or contemporary pieces specially composed for this event, 2) an orchestra of traditional instruments and 3) a folk-dance group. The joint ensemble (usually from 3 to 4 thousand performers) of the Evening programme render a stylised, original, specially composed performance on a topic prompted by the programme. Most often the traditional, e.g. field labour, family and other, topics are evoked. The joining of three elements – a song, a melody and a dance – brings a rich layered structure to the spectacle based on oral and intangible heritage.
The Ensembles’ Evening takes place at the Kalnai Park’s arena – a perfect setting for the pre-rehearsed events. The event is so popular that sometimes it has to be shown twice to meet the audience’s demand. Have you visited, seen, listened? The ensembles welcome you to come by!
